10 turtles in one dive
As of August 2017, Ocean Dimensions are now diving & snorkelling in the Unesco Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll at Kihaa Maldives – the closest resort to Hanifaru Bay. We hope to see you there!
During yesterday’s dive at Hithadhoo West we saw no less then 10 turtles! This is actually a must see dive site for turtle lovers as we usually encounter many green and hawksbill turtles at this spot. We get specially close to the green turtles as you can see in this photo, I guess they see some reflection in the lens port of the camera and keep looking at it out of curiosity.
Some more facts on turtles: The shell of a green turtle can be up to 1 meter long and weigh up to 140 kg. They can reach 50 years of age but only reach maturity at about 25 years. Turtles need to come to the surface to breathe every few minutes when they are active but they last for about 2 hours when they are resting. Green turtles have a very beautiful shell. They can’t retract their fins like tortoises. They use their from flipper for speed and their back flippers for steering. Their favourite food are sponges and jelly fish and they have very strong beaks. To learn more about turtles join us for a dive at Six Senses Laamu, Maldives
