Dive hair? We care!
January 2, 2026
Are you struggling to keep your hair under control during a scuba trip? Multiple dives a day, combined with prolonged exposure to salt water, sun and wind can be really though on your hair, causing damage, dryness, and breakage. Here is a simple, yet effective dive hair-care routine to follow before, during, and after your dives. This will help you go from an entangled mess to a true mermaid!

Before preparing your gear, take some time to prepare your hair:
Apply a reef safe leave-in conditioner: it protects your hair by creating a protective barrier. At the same time it doesn’t contain the chemicals that can damage coral reefs. It will make your hair more manageable, soft, and easy to comb after the dive.
Apply pure coconut oil: its fatty acids deeply penetrate the hair shaft, helping to prevent dryness. It also nourishes and strengthens your hair.
Get creative and choose your hairstyle: it will keep your hair secure, prevents knots and tangling in your scuba equipment.
Wear some effective accessories that can protect your hair: a headband, a mask strap cover, or a neoprene hoodie. They improve comfort throughout the dive, helping you stay focused and enjoy the experience even more. Wearing a bandana, cap, or hood between dives can make a big difference too.

After surfacing your hair need a proper rinse, just like your equipment.
Rinse with fresh water as soon as possible. Apply a reef safe conditioner to restore their softness and use a wide-tooth comb to avoid breakage. During your dive trips, avoid hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons: high heat can cause a lot of stress on your hair. Instead you can let your hair dry naturally and embrace your natural texture of your hair, let them be wavy and wild.

Healthy hair and great dives can go hand in hand—with the right care, your long hair can stay strong, smooth, and dive-ready. 🌊🧜♀️
