Interesting Safety Stop!

As of August 2017, Ocean Dimensions are now diving & snorkelling in the Unesco Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll at Kihaa Maldives – the closest resort to Hanifaru Bay. We hope to see you there!
At the end of each dive we do a safety stop on 5 metres for 3 minutes to slow down our ascent and allow accumulated nitrogen to already slowly leave our body. Did you know that 30 years ago this was not common practise? Your dive computer will remind you to do a safety stop and will stop counting down if you don’t stick to the 5 meters. In the 80’s the PADI campaign S.A.F.E. Diver = Slowly Ascend From Every Dive was a big step in educating divers.
Don’t believe that safety stop are boring there is plenty to see at 5 meters. My favourite little fish that I always look out for is the long nose file fish which in some books is also called the harlequin file fish. They always come in pairs and live in shallow water. I have already had some exciting safety stops with rays, sharks and even dolphins. What was your favourite safety stop encounter a manta maybe?
