Living on a tiny island in the Maldives

Living on a tiny island in the Maldives has its challenges sometimes. But these are easily forgotten with the amount of rewards this life has to offer!
Questions we get asked a lot
Do we live on this island? What’s it like living on a tiny island? How long for have we been here or intend to stay?
Well, every one of our team would give you slightly different answers. But the main thing we have in common is our love for the ocean! We do live on the island in the staff area, which is usually in the middle of the island. This leaving the beautiful beaches to our guests. Contracts are different for each of us, but the minimum we stay is 1 year. The Maldives and the cruise of island life is very easy to fall in love with, most of us have been here longer than that. Look at Marc and Petra, they have called the Maldives home for the past 25 years. Oleg has been working seasonally for us for the past 9 years, and Alex is entering his 6 year now.
Things we miss
The Maldives is an amazing place to live and work for divers (above the water is pretty stunning too!!). However, there are odd things you miss which seem so mundane to our guests. Going to the supermarket and cooking, the cinema, going out for dinner, meeting up with friends, going for a hike (the island takes 15 minutes to walk around) to name just a few. However, much like the animals that live here we have learnt to adapt to island life!
Adapting to Island life
Video calling is very handy for us when we want to catch up with friends and family back home. We sometimes island hop to go out for a meal or to see something different. For us instead of getting an uber we have to arrange a speedboat. We spend our down time exercising, reading, playing cards, and watching movies. Some of us even like to dive on our off days, or in the evenings! like I said most of us are ocean crazy.
We wont lie, the internet in the Maldives can be a little patchy sometimes, but that’s to be expected when you go to a remote island. Some of our guests like this aspect as this means that once you are here you can almost fully switch off to the rest of the world and go into full relaxation mode!
Living on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean is not for everyone, you do have to be a particular type of person. But the experiences you get are incredible, all of us having many “once in a lifetime” occurrences already under our belt.
