Manta Ray Season

at Six Senses Laamu

Manta sightings at Six Senses Laamu

As of August 2017, Ocean Dimensions are now diving & snorkelling in the Unesco Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll at Kihaa Maldives – the closest resort to Hanifaru Bay. We hope to see you there!

Not only is the surfing season in full swing but we are pleased to announce that the Manta Season is also kicking off here around Six Senses Laamu.

Hithadhoo Corner is a cleaning station for Manta Rays and of course for some of the other fish that wait in line. Hithadhoo Corner aka Manta Point is only 5 minutes boat ride away from Six Senses Laamu and naturally a favourite dive site of every diver.

Beth & Lirar who are the representatives from the Manta Trust are here for the next 8 months to take photos of the bellies of all the Manta!!! Yes, each manta has a different pattern on their belly allowing them to be identified. The photos taken will be compared in the Manta Trust Data Base. Through these research techniques, we are able to learn about their habits, territory and migratory behaviors. Hopefully we will get to see a pregnant Manta, or even better some juvenile Mantas, helping our identified individuals to rise from 86 to 100!
