Snorkel and dive

with clownfish

A perfect model for photographers – the clownfish

As of August 2017, Ocean Dimensions are now diving & snorkelling in the Unesco Biosphere Reserve in the Baa Atoll at Kihaa Maldives – the closest resort to Hanifaru Bay. We hope to see you there!

In the Maldives we have two different type of clownfish. The body of the Maldivian Anemonefish is orange with a single white stripe behind the eye and black anal fins. The Clark’s Anemonefish is black with 2 white stripes as an adult but has different colouring when it is young. As the name suggests they live in an anemone and they have a great choice between the Leathery Anemone, Magnificent Anemone, Beaded Anemone, Bulb-tentacle Anemone, Adhesive Anemone and many more! These anemones have stinging tentacles but as the clownfish has a special thick coating of protective mucus it is not affected by those stingers and has a perfect hiding place from predators within the anemone. On both our snorkel and our dive excursions we have plenty of opportunity to get close to the clownfish. The anemone’s foot holds on to the reef, it can move but it is a extremely slow, therefor it is a perfect subject for all photographers. In our photography classes you can learn more about taking the perfect picture.
