Light at the end of the tunnel

There is a light at the end of the tunnel – can you see it too!
Starting with Oleg our instructor from Belarus, in April 2020 one by one our team members went back to their home countries and their families. Marcela, Marta, Jeon, Marc and I were the last ones to leave on the 15th July 2020. We were all together on the same flight from Male to Doha, where we split up to go in different directions. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic both our resorts and dive centres were closed indefinitely.
A great summer in Germany
Despite the worry about what the future might hold, Marc and I had an enjoyable summer in Germany. With the warm temperatures we were even able to meet up with family and friends in the Biergardens. As we started to miss the water we did some Stand up Paddle boarding along the Alster in Hamburg and on part of the river Rhein near Xanten. We had fun playing golf and for the first time we tried our swing at virtual golf. I recommend to play it with a glass of beer or Prosecco in my case, it adds to the challenge. We also did a lot of dog walking and cycling. All the while we were waiting to hear news of our resorts and when they would restart.
Back in the Maldives
In the beginning of October we arrived back in the Maldives. We did the required two-week quarantine at Brennia Kottefaru in Raa Atoll. Promptly at the end of the month our first guests started to trickle in, a family from Norway. With this group we managed our first and last visit of the year to the famous Hanifaru Bay. It turned out to be the best visit ever! We were lucky to snorkel with about 100 mantas and 2 whalesharks. On our return we celebrated this good fortune with champagne!!
Light at the end of the tunnel
We take it as a good omen for the future, as more and more guests are arriving at Brennia. The first guests for Kihaa Maldives in Baa Atoll will arrive on 15th December 2020. We hope that just like us, you will start to miss the Maldives and the diving and are considering a break away from home to the sunny side of life. The entry requirement for the Maldives is a negative PCR test. For both the UK and Switzerland, Maldives is even on a corridor list, meaning no quarantine is required upon returning home. Hopefully soon some more countries will add Maldives to their safe travel destination, as its isolated nature makes it an ideal place to visit right now. Stay safe and we hope to see you back in the Maldives soon!
