Top Dive Sites in Raa Atoll

It has been a secret for a little while but no surprise here. Raa Atoll is becoming a favourite amongst seasoned divers. From Brennia Kottefaru, the newly opened resort in 2021, we reach about 30 different dive sites. And we don’t just reach one but several shark, turtle and manta dive spots within 5 – 10 minutes boat ride. We consider that a perfect luxury.

Manta Dive Sites

During the South-West Monsoon from May to November the winds and currents predominantly come from a southwestern direction. During this period we have our very own Manta Cleaning station – Kottefaru Thila – right in front of our doorstep. Once the mantas have completed their spa date, they hang around in the vicinity. We spot them at Vandhoo Thila, Neyo, Anemone Thila, Golden Wall and Vandhoo Wall were they feed.

During the North-East Monsoon period we need to travel about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Sola Corner on the opposite side of the Atoll. There we can enjoy watching mantas at their preferred cleaning station for the other half of the year. In case the mantas are late for their spa date at Sola, we can always watch the white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, sometimes a nurse shark or an eagle ray and plenty of schools of snappers.

Turtle Dive Sites

Golden Wall, Vandhoo Wall and Anemone Thila are not just manta spots but also many hawksbill turtles have made these reefs their home.

Grey Reef Shark Dive Sites

To see grey reef sharks we have the choice of either Anemone Thila, Kottefaru Thila or Inguraidhoo Thila. Just hang around the side of the reef that is exposed to the current, that is where the sharks will appear.

Apart from Sola Corner – we reach all dive sites mentioned above within 5 – 10 minutes!!
